JAKARTA – The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) of the Republic of Indonesia officially inaugurated the MA-CSIRT (Computer Security Incident Response Team) as a strategic step to increase information protection and security, especially in dealing with cyber threats and incidents that have the potential to damage and disrupt the operations of the Supreme Court and related judicial institutions. Friday, (22/9/23).
The inauguration of the team, named MA-CSIRT, was held grandly at the Arya Duta Hotel, Jakarta, on Thursday (21/9). The event was chaired by the Deputy Head of the BSSN, Putu Jayan Danu Putra, and the Chairman of the Supreme Court, Syarifudin, who was also witnessed by a number of important figures, including the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Anwar Usman, Chief of the Republic of Indonesia Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Secretary General of the Judicial Commission , Arie Sudihar, Inspector General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Razilu, Head of the Attorney General’s Criminal Investigation Center, Didik Farkhan Alisyahdi, and Assistant Intelligence Officer to the TNI Commander, Sonny Aprianto.
“We hope that the formation of MA-CSIRT can support the implementation of the duties and functions of the Supreme Court so that incident management is more organized and reduces high levels of cyber risk,” said Deputy Head of BSSN Putu Jayan Danu Putra.
Putu Jayan Danu Putra also highlighted the importance of having a Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) at the Supreme Court, which will facilitate the process of presenting information to the public and justice seekers. However, he also emphasized the need for improvement in the implementation of existing policies and procedures to ensure effective handling of cyber incidents.
In addition, BSSN recorded more than 326 million national cyber security traffic anomalies during the period 1 January to 19 September 2023. The highest type of anomaly included malware activity at 42.81%, followed by trojan activity at 36.03%, information leak at 9 .16%, and other activities as much as 12.00%.
“Therefore, in carrying out its role as cyber incident manager at the Supreme Court and its subordinate judicial bodies, the capabilities of Human Resources (HR) at MA-CSIRT need to be improved through training programs, workshops and simulations of handling cyber attacks with various scenarios,” he added. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Syarifudin, stated that the formation of a CSIRT in an institution that has strategic information such as the Supreme Court is very important considering that cyber attacks continue to increase from year to year. The increasing number of electronic systems and very important data is becoming a significant target, so that coordination and handling of cyber incidents between work units and related agencies becomes a necessity.
“For this reason, I would like to express my highest gratitude and appreciation to BSSN for being willing to collaborate with the Supreme Court in the process of establishing the MA-CSIRT. “Hopefully this collaboration will continue to develop, especially in terms of increasing the competency of human resources at the Supreme Court related to information security,” he concluded.
